Look Mexico – Not On My Watch

Florida’s Look Mexico are the best band you’ve never heard of. After a series of lineup changes, they began putting out music in 2006. With elements of math rock, post rock, and alternative, Look Mexico provide a new and refreshing take on music with each song. Chaotic yet controlled drums carry the song through sporadic, off-kilter guitar lines and bright, crisp vocals. Though their style has changed over the years, each album and EP they put out offers something new. Plus, all their song titles are Vin Diesel quotes, so there’s that. Check out the track “Not On My Watch” off their 2006 release This Is Animal Music below. Read More…

El Ten Eleven – Central Nervous Piston

Los Angeles duo El Ten Eleven could easily be classified as a wunderkind. Using all sorts of effects, loops, electronic drum kits, and harmonics, you’ll be amazed at the sounds these two rockers can come up with. Formed in 2002, they’ve put out five album, each a little different than the last. The guitarist plays a handmade, double-neck guitar (one of which is a bass, the other being a standard guitar); it’s incredible to watch him tap bass notes and guitar notes at the same time. The instrumental mathy post-rock they put out is nothing like any other music out there. With creative riffs, layering upon layering of loops, and time-centered beats, El Ten Eleven is probably the most creative band you’ve heard in a while. Check out “Central Nervous Piston” off their 2005 self-titled album below. Read More…

Pygmy Lush – Yellow Hall

It’s always great to see a band showcase their all-around musicianship by completely switching up genres. Pg. 99, a hardcore/metal group, decided they wanted to make some heavy-hearted indie-folk and set out to do just that. Pygmy Lush throws around pendulum-esque guitar riffs over hammering beats, allowing vocals to soar easily overhead. Great music for early mornings and after rough days, Pygmy Lush is just the thing you need to soothe your sorrows. Check out “Yellow Hall” below. Read More…
