Long Island’s The Republic of Wolves seem to be one of those bands that gets a lot of media buzz, but just can’t seem to garner the attention of fans. With a heavy, downtrodden rock sound, these guys often get compared to Devil and God-era Brand New, and with good reason. The two bands may sound like brothers separated at birth, but The Republic of Wolves brings with them a sense of grace that Brand New seems to lack (no offense hardcore fans). With only two EPs and one full-length, The Republic of Wolves are sure to be doing great things in music. Check out “Oarsman” off their debut LP Varuna below. Read More…

Straight out of California, Jenny Lewis was destined for greatness. Starting as a child actress, she was able to snag roles in The Wizard, Pleasantville, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin to name a few. Turning her focus towards music, she was able to form the ever-popular Rilo Kiley and hit it big with the band until splitting in 2011. Jenny Lewis wasn’t done though, releasing several solo albums and starting a project with boyfriend John Vanderslice appropriately titled Jenny and Johnny. The standout song of any of these projects is this nearly nine minute, three-part romp about a girl and her father. As groovy as it is long, the jazzy flow of the song makes it feel a lot shorter. Check out the track off Acid Tongue below. Read More…
